Matcha

History of Matcha Green Tea

Matcha really means “powdered tea”. When you drink matcha tea, it is basically drinking the leaves but instead of being whole, it is grinded into a powder form.  It is then mixed with specifically a bamboo whisk and water.  In Japan there are usually ceremonies to drink the matcha tea and this has been happening for over 900 years.

Benefits of Matcha Tea

  • High in antioxidants
  • Supports metabolism
  • Weight loss
  • Boosts immune system
  • Improves cardiovascular health
  • Fights cholesterol

Luckily, not only does matcha come in the powdered form but it is also available in capsule form and tea bags too.  One thing to note about Matcha is that, it contains caffeine therefore persons who are sensitive to caffeine should not use it.

The first time I had matcha, it was in the form of a latte and I truthfully disliked it but now I drink it every day in the tea bags and I prefer the taste.  For me, I found it has been helping with my digestion and energy levels.  You should give it a try 😉

All About Your Colon

What is your colon and where is it located?

You colon is your large intestines and it is located at the lowest part of the digestive system.

Purpose of your colon?

It absorbs fluids and waste products before excretion by the anus.  The water that is absorbed is then recylced back into the body for future use.

colon

If you suffer from constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, acid reflux, other digestive issues, mood swings, depression and skin problems then your colon is not functioning the way it should.

You need to:

  • Increase your fiber  intake (Chia seeds,Flax seeds,Quinoa,Psyllium husk,Bananas,Almonds)

What is fiber? – Fiber is responsible for moving foods throughout the digestive tract

It is known that we do not get sufficient amount of fiber in out diet due to the foods that we eat.  The western world is based on processed sugary fast foods which provides us with little to no vitamins and minerals.  These foods put a strain on our digestive system and it has to work even harder, this is why it is better to eat a “raw food diet”.

Raw-food-pyramid

I agree that it is not always easy to eat correctly, but it is necessary for your body to eat healthy most of the time.  You are doing yourself and your body a favour when you do so!

You also need to,

  • Eat more fruits and vegetables but try to avoid “gassy” veggies such as, Broccoli,Beans,Cabbage,Apples,Peaches.
  • Eat more fermented foods
  • Stop delaying “going off”
  • Use digestive enzymes
  • Eat more foods high in Magnesium or take Magnesium supplements (Why Mag?)

What are enzymes? BASICALLY, Enzymes aid the body in digestion. It helps break down carbs, proteins and fats.

A few reasons for the colon to stop working efficiently are, poor diet, lack of exercise and drugs.

Finding my balance

The Blogging Budding Optimist

Balance.

Lately, it has been my biggest struggle. It was not always a struggle but I found that as I grew older & as I started to think more consciously of my everyday choices, it became more evident. How much is too much of one thing and how much is too little? There is no specific recipe for balance,it’s just something you figure out on the way and through trial and error, so I’ll never have a definite answer for that question. But I do know balance when I feel it. There’s a feeling of safety, comfort, calmness. The tricky part is finding that balance. It’s a rough patch, it’s chaotic, it’s stormy,it’s anxiety-filled.

Now,when I speak about my battle with balance, you may find I’m speaking of it in a general sense. Mainly because it relates to many aspects of my life.

  • The balance between studying and things I want to…

Prostate

Recently, at my work place, a lot of men have been coming in and asking for products to help with their prostate, either proactive prevention or because they are already experiencing prostate issues.  Men should be very aware of their health “down there” because it is possible to develop prostate cancer.

If you are unsure about what the prostate is and what is it’s purpose, here is it,

The prostate is a male reproductive gland which is below the bladder and in front of the rectum, it is about the size of a walnut.  Its’ function is to secrete prostate fluid called, semen.

Polycystic Ovaries / Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

What is Polycystic Ovaries aka PCOS?

PCOS occurs when there is an imbalance in a woman’s sex hormones such as, estrogen and progesterone.  This results in cysts growing on the ovaries.

Polycystic

Usually, doctors prescribe taking birth control pills to balance your hormones. From my experience though, I have encountered many persons who have been on birth control for many years, some say that it does not help them or they are trying to refrain from it.  Two herbs that can be taken instead of birth control are:

  • Chasteberry aka Vitex (I Recommended this to many of my customers where I work and received positive feedback from each one of them. Some customers purchase three at time! I will definitely continue to recommend it)
  • Saw Palmetto

Generally, other remedies for ovarian cysts are:

Many people are unaware that diet is a major contributing factor to developing or worsening polycystic ovaries.  The following are foods to avoid if you have polycystic ovaries:

  • Dairy
  • Processed foods
  • Sugary foods
  • Carbs, eat more complex carbs
  • If eating meat is necessary for you, then try to eat organic meat (free range chickens et cetera ) Avoid meats that are injected with steroids, this leads to even more hormones getting into your body.
  • Soy
  • Oily foods
  • Refined sugar such as: High fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners
  • Alcohol
